Robert Pawliczek “Sublayers”
“The sheer volume of the term “Sublayers” which in painting speaks of different layers that are applied, or different motifs that are painted on top of each other to create multiple depths. Multi-layered, layer by layer, each layer a different focus and different perspectives.“ Robert Pawliczek
Pawliczek’s site-specific installation will be shown in combination with works recently developed in New York and Vienna, where he lives and works. His multimedia experiments often move at the transitions between individual disciplines, for example from painting to sculpture, meaning that he circles the theme of painting in a variety of ways. Pawliczek also deals a lot with the subject of movement: Walking, traveling, mapping and collecting are important parts of his work process, whereby he locates himself between conceptual art, color field painting, object art, op art, situational art and architecture-related photography.
He works primarily as a visual artist and runs a publishing house for art editions called DIDT Publishing, therefore also writes art-related critical texts, but also composes sound and video designs for theater and film productions. Since his late teens, Pawliczek has been part of various projects in the DIY scene around the world, releasing music on various labels. He has toured in Europe, USA, UK, Australia, Japan and India in many constellations such as Bobby Would, Itchy Bugger, Heavy Metal, Privat, Schiach, Welt Star, Muscle Barbie, Healing, to name a few. He also runs the cassette label Die Plattenfirma which previously only released lo-fi music, and a newer and more experimental platform called Quality Music Records.
